Don't Be Blue!

I saw this cool blue desk today, made out of mosaic tile. There is a bunch of other furniture made of tiles like these at Furniture Fashion. Check out the table at the bottom of their page. I thought that tiled wall would look awesome as a wall at the top of a staircase. MMMMMMM!

Good drink for tonight
We are adding a new feature to our blue Wednesdays. A good drink recipe for a good relaxing night.

Bay Blue Cocktail Recipe

1 1/2oz Vodka

1 Splash Blue Curacao

1 1/2oz Blueberry Schnapps

2 oz 7UP

2 oz Cranberry Juice

Directions: Pour the vodka, the schnapps and the 7-up in a highball glass. Then add in slowly the cranberry juice. Float the blue curacao on top. If done right you'll have a nice multi-coloured drink.

Laugh of the day!

A priest is walking down the street one day when he notices a very small boy trying to press a doorbell on a house across the street. However, the boy is very small and the doorbell is too high for him to reach. After watching the boy's efforts for some time, the priest moves closer to the boy's position. He steps smartly across the street, walks up behind the little fellow and, placing his hand kindly on the child's shoulder leans over and gives the doorbell a sold ring. Crouching down to the child's level, the priest smiles benevolently and asks, "And now what, my little man?" To which the boy replies, "Now we run!"

Lantern Centerpieces

So today I will be talking about lantern centerpieces. Now that we are plummeting into fall and winter is right around the corner, lanterns always bring a warm feel to a cold night. I found some cool centerpieces that used a variation of lanterns from The Knot.

Here is just a few ideas on how to dress up lanterns for your event and/or dinner table;
  1. Surround the bottoms with flowers. A way to keep them all in place is by buying or making a wreath to place around the bottom. It will keep everything tight and together. Examples are pics 1 and 5. Hydrangea, roses, sticks and a tomato adorn the table on pic 1. Pic 5 is a fall medley with colorful leaves, and a pumpkin with a red candle.

  2. Another option is stones. In pics 2 the designer used chicks and hens (the green plants), a pink rose, and light colored stones to dress up the table with a very clean, zen feel. Inside the lantern they used orange and yellow rose petals and an orange candle to bring color to the table. Another option for a fun Halloween feel would be to use candy corn instead of rose petals.

  3. In pic 4 they used clear glass dishes filled with dark colored stones and white orchids to decorate the surrounding area of the lantern. They also added some extra tea lights and flowers vases. A very spring like feel.

  4. Lastly is pic 3, which has a very Moroccan feel. The middle is a bouquet of mini pink and orange roses, looks like there maybe some carnations and Gerber's in there too. They added some grapes, which where something that where fed to the gods by their goddesses. There are also rose petals and amber tea lights intertwined between the lanterns.

Check out "The Shop" our lanterns collection is extensive with different designs to suit every need.

Good luck with your designs!

Show Your Inner Child...

Here is a living room/sitting room that I found on The Nest. I love the use of color, how the room seems so ordinary until you see the bursts of color here and there and it brings the whole room together. It really shows the kids in them.

I am going to start with the wall colors. The main color is eggshell with ivory windows and chair rails. The colorful squares seem to be in the colors pumpkin, lilac, robins egg blue, sky blue, olive green, and butter. You can do this one of two ways, by using decals like THESE or you can hand paint them. If you are going to paint them I recommend getting the tiny sample cans from home depot to paint the smaller squares, such as the robins egg blue, butter, and olive green. You will only need a little of it and it lessens the amount of left over paint stored in your garage, shed or only closet in your apartment.

With painters tape block off the lighter colors first and paint them and let dry. Then go back and block off the darker colors and paint them last. On the section like the pumpkin and lilac I would do this first and then go back after the pumpkin has dried and paint the lilac over the pumpkin section. This will give that rectangle the faded look with the transparency of the pumpkin under it.

The modern sleek furniture can be found at places like IKEA and Target. The pillows, purple, blue and green variations are on the medium color scale. There are three steps of decor color in this room, dull, medium, and loud. Most well decorated rooms have this.

Now I will talk about the fireplace. White colonial style is original and clean looking. The mirrors on the top and bottoms enlarges the look of the room, and adds more color with the reflection of the walls. The outside tile work is not my cup of tea personally. I feel like its very grandma like in this young feeling room. So I would change that out, which is not much work HERE is a walk through by Lowes.

Check out the decoupage board

  1. Pillows, Chair, stool, chandelier, and rug from Target
  2. Couch and coffee table IKEA
  3. Vases from The Shop
  4. Tile from Cool Tiles

Its Monday!

Usually I love Mondays because my husband would go back to work and I would get a lot of alone time to work at the store. But due to the economy on his industry he has been given long weekends. By the time 10pm Monday roles around I am frantic that nothing got done that day except my customers orders and requests. Didn't update the blog, didn't update the website, didn't make anything new, and my head is ready to explode. Now I am like everyone else dreading hectic Mondays :-)
So I was flipping through some awesome pictures to change my computers background with today and came across this beauty..

How gorgeous is this! I just want to be sitting under it reading a good book. It was a refreshing blast of fall, after I walked outside today in shorts and the temp was 87 degrees. Ugh! Where did the fall weather go? I hope other people are enjoying the season and all the colors. Remember to send some my way :-D

The fall promo should be out within the next few days. I was pushing for today but you see how that went. The new ads are out though, take a look;

Marthas Rope Stools

Its finally Friday! But it is not a pretty one here on the East Coast. Its been raining since last night which has caused flooding. My husband came home from work early because he's sick, so hes laying on the couch sleeping. Its just one of those days I want to wrap myself in a blanket and watch movies all day. Hopefully the weekend won't be the same way, and I hope others are having a better Friday then I am.
I came across these beautiful stools on Martha Stewart's site today.
They have such a wonderful harvest feel to them. Like mostly everything on Martha's site they are a DIY project, and seem to be an easy one at that. So here's your weekend DIY project!
Tools and Materials:
Rock-climbing or nylon rope (sporting good store or hardware store)
Lighter
Sandpaper
Wooden stool (Yard sales, wood working shops, craft stores)
Caulking gun/Construction adhesive (available at hardware stores)
Rope-Seat Stools How-To:
1. To prevent fraying, singe one end of the rope with a lighter; then sand it to remove any black char.
2. Lightly sand stool top. Using a caulking gun, gingerly apply construction adhesive to the stool's center. Roll a 3-inch spiral of rope to start, and glue it down by holding it for a few seconds until secure.
3. Continue gluing and spiraling as you go, until the top and sides of the seat are covered. Snip off the end, singe and sand it, and glue it under the seat.

Eastwick!

I watched Eastwick last night, seems like a show that may grow on me. Its funny how every time a show takes place in a little New England town, it always looks the same. It looks like the same town from the Gilmore Girls. I have never seen a town look like that in real life, even though I grew up in New England, humm? I am sure there are a few that look like that but not most of them.

Anyhow, I really want one of those pudgy sculptures that Roxie makes, she was so cute! It reminds me of those paintings of the "fluffy" ladies in the swimsuits that I love so much.

Well while watching the show I was looking at the decor in Roxy's house and realized I sell ALL of those things. Like the hanging stars and the lanterns. It was actually pretty exciting. Sad part is the show probably paid a pretty penny for it, when I sell it for a third of that price. But it was really exciting seeing all my stuff on TV.

My coffee table for instance has been dragged around the living room, and moved to 4 homes that its just ready to fall apart. But its been a good coffee table and I hate to see it go. Sooo... I found this site Chroma Lab! They don't redo your furniture or show you how to do it. But if you have some kind of knowledge of painting and upholstery then they give you some unbelievable ideas on how refreshing a piece of furniture can be. If your not that creative there is a shop where you can buy all the furniture they present on their site.

Keep the Cats Busy....

As I was looking for something blue to brighten your Wednesday, I came across this awesomeness...

I believe this is something old, and has been around for a few years but its the first time I have seen it. Its incredible what people come up with especially with fish tanks. The sky the limit on designing one it seems. Here are some cool and funny other ones. Have a great hump day!

Blue Joke of the Week!
L ittle Tim was in the garden filling in a hole when his neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely asked,
"Whatcha doing, Tim?"
"My goldfish died," replied the boy tearfully, without looking up. "And I've just buried him."
The neighbor was concerned. "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"
Tim patted down the last heap of earth then replied, "That's because he's inside your cat."

Teen Spa Birthday

The party stylzz this week is..... Spa Birthday for teens! I have been looking at different possibilities for this Tuesdays Blog and kids rooms and parties kept popping up and making me squeal so I figured I would make it a kid week. This could also be a lot of fun for just a girls night or bridal shower.

Marigold, Shocking Pink, and Teal are going to be the color combo. These are also some great nail polishes that can be supplied through Hot Topic.

  1. Some colored flip flops that can be used so the pedi's are not messed up. (Old Navy)
  2. Some comfy fluffy white flip flop/ slippers (Old Navy)
  3. Shaggy pink carpet for floors in bedroom/basement (Overstock)
  4. Soft resting pillow, good to lay on during facials (Sears)
  5. Bamboo mat for bathroom floor (Overstock)
  6. Chocolate covered strawberries, mozzarella and tomatoes, sparkling cider, and individual cakes for food
  7. Teal and Yellow pillows to throw around the floor, beds, and chairs (Two Pillows)
  8. Yellow plastic champagne flutes for the sparkling cider (Sears)
  9. Yellow and Pink carnation or rose pomanders placed on top of the faux leather vase (The Shop)
  10. Pretty pink lily candle holders (The Shop)
  11. Different parting gifts of bath and body items (The Shop)
  12. Gerber Daisy picture, art work to be displayed around the rooms (Overstock)

This can be done anywhere, bedroom, basement, etc... Any room can be transformed but most likely will be the easiest in a bedroom. Pillows are key because there will be a lot of lying around chatting and eating. Teal, Yellow, and Pink pillows (big and small) should transform a bed into a sitting area (mani, pedi, eating, etc..) and a lying area (facials, relaxing, etc..).

A comfy pink carpet should be thrown over the floor, walking on a cloud is what you are going for, that's why the sandal/slippers in #2 will work also.

The walls should hold relaxing artwork of flowers and such. The windows should be covered with a flowy white or lite pink sheer drapes to block outside but allow the sun to shine in. The focal point of the room will be the pomanders of carnations, roses, or tissue paper. There are DIY's all over google to do these. Yellow and Pink pomps resting on top of a dramatic vase such as the one we supply in #9. This can be placed in the middle of the room, in front of a window, or on the side of the bathtub. If you decide to use this in your main room, you can also make extra smaller pomps and let them float in the tub with some candles. Pretty, girly tea lights shall be placed around to give the room a calm ambiance. Battery operated tea lights inside the holders may be a good idea around crazy teenagers :-)

Food is decadent. Chocolate, salad, creamy. So I am going with chocolate covered strawberries, another good idea is a chocolate fondue with random fruits (strawberries, bananas, cherries). For lunch try some tomato and mozzarella salad, its sophisticated but tastes so good, they won't be able to put it down. Some sparkling cider in champagne flutes or martini glass will make the girls feel like they are part of Sex in the City. Individual mini cakes will allow for each girl to feel special, not to mention how girly they feel eating mini pastries.

Since its a spa day certain necessities are required such as; nail polish, bath salts, facial masks, lotion, towels, etc.. Go crazy with accessories! A parting gift would also be highly recommended, a spa gift set something that would remind the girls of the day would work perfectly!

Be imaginative, allow your teen to be bold and pick colors and food that she would really like. Give them the direction and let them run wild with it. Its really surprising what they come up with.

Go get your party on!

Landscaping a Room

I am either really into designing something special today, or I want to spend a lot of money. Everything I have been looking at to talk about with you guys today, I want everything, including the baby rooms and I don't even have any kids!. I guess its the change of season.

I am going to touch on outside decor today, because that's where I always want to be this time of the year. Not only will your your space become a beautiful oasis but a great spot for get togethers.

(HGTV)

This is great inspiration for a larger yard. The only things I would change with this whole design is adding some flowy drapes and the color of the chairs and carpet. I am a lover of color, so this is just way to matchy matchy with the surrounding pebbles and fireplace. But if that suits what your likes are then by all means go for it!

Lets start with the wood pergola. There are so many designs for these that it really depends on what you like. There's ones with crosshatch designs, which are wonderful if you want to add hanging plants. There are ones like the one above that only has horizontal lines. There are ones with lattice walls or open walls. There are endless possibilities with these. I am just going to work with the one above which you can find in many stores for about $1,500-$2,500 depending on the wood used and the size. Its actually a good price considering its another room you can use most of the year if not all year round. You can find one HERE. Also check out your wholesale clubs (Sams, BJ's, Costco, etc..) or Lowes they usually have speciality items like these at reasonable prices. If you feel the confidence to build one yourself then check out the DIY version HERE.

Add a wood or clear curtain rod on the 4 sides of the pergola with sheer colored drapes, such as sage, white, teal, purple, etc.. The color of the drapes will add to the theme inside (orange or purple good for Moroccan... Tiffany blue, or white are good for ocean theme and greens are good for a woodsy feel). You can find some wonderful panels HERE.

The furniture is essential to keep everyone happy and comfy even if its just to go out and read a book. I am in love with the Hampton Bay collection at Home Depot, the colors and variety are wonderful. You can find them HERE. I would use the Chateau collection for this specific design. The outdoor rugs from Home Depot are gorgeous too. I would pick a brown and tan rug with a bold design.

The stone fireplace on cold night makes for a great focal point. So the more elaborate the better on normal circumstances, even though I feel it gets lost in this design. Try the one from Lowes which you can find HERE.

Purple and/or fuchsia potted flowers will pop next to the green and natural browns and tans. The flower color also goes with the lanterns which I feel once again matches everything and nothing brings out a specific color. I would use the flowers as the burst of color and tone down the colors of the lanterns such as silver, black, or white. Also a longer centerpiece on the table rather then the same lanterns that are on the corners of the pergola.

Lastly darker stone or pebbles would make the the whole area look like an island and stand out.

Here is the canvas for this idea:

Since the writing is hard to see:

  1. Panels - Plow and Hearth
  2. Chateau Collection - Home Depot
  3. Fireplace - Lowes
  4. Purple and fuchsia flowers
  5. Rug - Home Depot
  6. Lanterns and Centerpiece - Sunday Morning

Happy Fall Everyone!

Today I am going to bust out a few entries because I know its feeling lonely in here lately. There are new items added to "the shop" so stop by sometime this week and check them out, new bath and body and candle holders. Monday the Fall line will be out so you can get your house all set up with those wonderful oranges and reds.

I truly love this time of year when the trees start to change, its like a present when I see colors peeking out. Like right now I am staring at my neighbors beautiful tree, I believe its a type of willow ( I am not good with plants) the whole tree is green except for a few clumps of branches that are orange and yellow. Its likes those paintings that only have a few splashes of color (humm now I want to paint). Absolutely gorgeous!

So today is not only the first day of fall but will be Home Decoupage Monday but Party Stylzz Tuesday.

Here is one of my favorite pictures depicting Fall;

This is from a Chicago tv station.
Comment some of your favorite fall photos.

Romantic Ambiance ...

This picture was found on Martha Stewart weddings, which I love to use because her brain just explodes with wonderful ideas daily. The decor in this picture is good for any party setting, not just weddings.

The candles on the table seem to make an inner circle with many little clear holders. A good example for these, which you can find HERE.

The colors of the flowers on the table match the petals in the hanging tree lanterns and lanterns on the posts. I would use real and dried flowers for the lanterns since fake can be flammable. Flyboy Naturals has a great variety of colors and petals. Here are some good lanterns that can be used to recreate this look, all can be found at the shop...

Refreshingly Classic

This room is Katie Lee Joels dining room. I love how classic it looks without feeling stuffy and snooty. This is a great design for an old time home. The painted floors not only make the room look dramatic but is an easy fixed for old tarnished wood floors. A part that really jumps out at me is how she didn't overdo it with the black in the furniture which would have turned it into a cavern type feel.

Something I have been seeing more and more often is vases or big urns in a fireplace that doesn't work. The jury is still out if I like this idea or not. In some cases its a pretty use of the space but also it shows that it blatantly doesn't work. It is a better choice then just blocking off that space all together though.

The two chandeliers and long table, makes the room look elongated. If a short table would have replaced it, it would have made the room look stumpy and misused. The wood in the bookcase matches the gold in the chandelier but because of the modern feel, it updates the room a bit especially with being able to see into the kitchen which is fully modernized.
Now lets talk about how to get this room for cheap!
The table, chairs and chandeliers could be a perfect estate sale pick up. Also some cheap furniture can be found at Overstock. I found a chandelier that would work with this for only $82!

The color pallet for the walls, ceiling, and floors are black, ice blue, and off white.

Some of the decor that I would like to touch on are the vases in the fireplace, the bowl on the table, and the vase on the fireplace. Here are some good additions that you can find out our shop to use for those parts of the room.

Okay! There ya go guys, let me know what ya think.

Twilight As a Theme?

I came across someone that wanted to do a wedding themed around twilight. Freaked me out a bit to tell you the truth, not because of the goth undertone, but that someone could be so crazed about something like a movie or book to theme their wedding around it. To each's own though and I don't judge anyone. So after reading this and the fact that she has no idea how to design it, I thought about it for a while and came up with a great theme whether you want to call it Twilight or not! I have only seen the movie and have never read the book, so I thought of what I could from what I have seen. So here are some important details that should be touched on;
Apples
Sparkle
Dark/Gothic
Red/Black/ White
Satin
Chess Pieces
Trees/Woods

Don't necessarily need to touch on them all to get your point across.

Here is a bridal canvas of everything I will be talking about.

Twilight Theme by SundayMorning

From top left clockwise:

I saw these little rose globes and they looked just like apples!

Guys attire suits/tuxes black shirts black and red ties

Maggie Sottero dress

King and Queen chess pieces sold as favors but works as the bride and groom on the cake too.

Gold highlights on the tables and loose crystals on the table. You can find these candle holders HERE

The cake is the same one the author used at the release of the forth book

Red Mosaic bowl that would look beautiful filled with water and floating candles as centerpieces, you can find it at our shop

Next 2 pics are table pics. Black tablecloths and chair covers with red satin sashes.

Great pieces of eye candy for the sides or corners of the room with willow and red apples

Lastly candy apples would work for favors or part of a candy apple bar.

That's what I have so far. Let me know what you think and if you have some ideas throw them in :-)
