Lazy DIY Friday Uhmm Saturday....

Hope this is not too late to throw at you for the weekend. Its so rainy here and just one of those days, ugh...

Since Halloween is only 3 weeks away, lets get those pumpkins carved!
From ehow.com
  1. Select a fresh pumpkin in a shape that pleases you. Some folks prefer their pumpkins low and round, while others like them tall and oval-shaped.

  2. Cut through the stem end of the pumpkin along your outline with a sharp knife or pumpkin-carving tool. Use a back-and-forth slicing motion to cut through the thick, tough skin.

  3. Remove the stem end, which will act as a cap, making sure you scrape off any seeds or pulp.

  4. Use a large spoon to scoop out the seeds and pulp from inside the pumpkin. Hold the spoon by its bowl to get extra leverage while scooping.

  5. Draw a pattern for the face on the clean pumpkin with a felt-tip pen, or scribe the lines into the skin using a pencil. Be sure to make the eyes, nose and mouth large enough; you'll have a hard time cutting out tiny features when you're using a big knife blade to saw through tough skin.

  6. Follow your pattern as you cut all the way through the pumpkin.

  7. Push the cut-out features gently from the inside of the pumpkin and discard the pieces.

  8. Place a votive candle inside the pumpkin to create an eerie glow.
Better Homes and Gardens has some awesome printable stencils that you can use, you can find them HERE!

Have fun and send some of your carvings my way at customerservice@sund-morning.com and we may post them as the best of the '09 season!

Dog Mansions and Tree Houses

These are the cutest homes I have ever seen. Take a look at the rest of them HERE... To check out the tree houses there is a link on the side of the slideshow that says $20,000 for a treehouse. I could never imagine spending that much on a kids play area that they will just grow out of in a few years. My car didn't even cost that much haha.

A Piece of Art Kitchen, Mid Week Blues...

All I could say was WOW! when I saw this room. What a different look for a kitchen. Its so clean feeling with the light colors. The marble topped island is almost a focal point, a piece of art for the middle of the room. Don't miss the chandeliers, they are pieces of art in themselves. The floors look like they have lemon and orange peels on them, or lips and eye balls (haven't figured that out yet ;-)) I am not sure if I would use that as more floor if I reproduced this. There are so many details to look at, its like a wheres waldo picture haha.

Laugh Your Frustration Off:
How Baskin Robbins Got Its Name

Two robins were lying on their backs, basking in the sun. A mama cat and her kitten were walking by.
The kitten complained, "Mama, I'm sooo hungry, what can we eat?"
To which the mama cat, spying the two robins, replied, "How about some Baskin Robbins?"

The Dramatics of Candelabras...

Halloween is just around the corner and candelabras always remind me of those spooky old mansions. They are very dramatic and eye catching. Not only are they wonderful for just the center of a round table, but add a few to elongate the feel of a rectangular table, a table that only fits 6 will feel like 20.

You can dress them up with crystals and flowers or just leave them alone for everyday use. I love the use of carnations or roses in a bundle for the candles. They replace the candles with these bunches and it gives it an extra pop of color, which is wonderful for venues that don't except candles (and fake candles just don't look right with these). Also if you are just leaving them up for everyday use some fake flowers would allow this piece to be another piece of everyday decor. You can always have them come out so when you sit down to dinner you can remove them and replace with candles.

Here are just some examples;

Picture 1 : Is a beautiful display of how to you can use a candelabra to hold floral arrangements also. Its very Queen of hearts to me, I really love it. Bold and elegant.
Picture 2: Is an example of what I talked about earlier. Making bunches of flowers to replace candles with. It adds a great amount of color to an otherwise dreary table.
Picture 3: Has an arrangement in the middle of the candelabra with candle surrounding it. This is great for a simple candle holder that doesn't have much going on.
Picture 4: A elegant example of crystal use. The whole table just feels lit up compared to the dark room behind it. How the crystals hang off of this one can be done to any simple candle holder much like picture 3.
Mostly any decor place you shop has some sort of candelabras and can range from $15 to thousands of dollars. You can get them ornate, drenched in crystal, or just some metal bars with candle holders on top. Really the sky is the limit when decorating with these.
You can also find them right here in our Shop! These are the ones we carry;

Orange You Lucky!

Yep! The person who owns this room truly is a lucky person. This bathroom is just a beautiful example of orange walls. It has such a warm, beachy, clean feel to it. All I would want is a really comfy chaise lounge and a good book if this was mine. It looks so elegant but if you break down every part of it, it can be made pretty cheaply, which is awesome for us normal people ;-)

You don't necessarily need doors to the outside in order to get this style. Long windows with long flowy drapes would work just as well. Vanity's run for over $1,000 for one like this. Personally I would buy a old one from a yard sale and paint it to look like that. All it takes is a tan paint. Also some dark stain. Paint the whole table tan and then stain the crevices lightly. It will take some imagination and a good hand with a paint brush. The dresses on the left is pretty much the same thing. It has Moroccan colors orange, red, and goldish yellow draws with a black cabinet. A sponge and the paint will make this effects very well.

  1. Sheer curtains in tan (Bed and Bath Store)
  2. Lanterns for hanging on ceiling (Sunday Morning)
  3. Area Rug (Payless Rugs)
  4. Stool for vanity (Payless Rugs) This store has a wonderful selection of stools.
  5. Floor lanterns for next to the vanity and on the vanity (Sunday Morning)

Frame Wreath for Fall

So I saw these and thought it looked really cool since I NEVER see wreaths of different shapes other then circular. I also thought a star shape (which you can get as a styrofoam form too) would look different, and pretty.

But here ya go the lazy DIY for the weekend! (this project was found on Better Homes and Gardens)

Materials
Styrofoam wreath form (or a wire form)
Sheet moss
U-shaped florist's pins
Florist's wire
Hot-glue gun
Preserved fall leaves
Fall ornament (optional)

Instructions

  • Create a wreath hanger at the top of the wreath using sturdy wire wrapped around the form and bent into a hanging loop.
  • Cover a Styrofoam wreath form with sheet moss using U-shaped pins to attach the moss. (On a wire form, wrap thin florist's wire all the way around the wreath to secure the moss.)
  • Next, use U-shaped pins or dabs of hot glue to attach preserved or artificial leaves all around the wreath.
  • If desired, hang a pumpkin ornament in the center.

Remember you never have to follow the rules of these DIY's, if you feel you can make it better then do it! Don't ever let instructions stop you :-)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Drool Over This Ceremony Spot

This place has to be the most beautiful ceremony spot that I have ever seen. Its called the Infinity Chapel in Bali. They describe it as "the building’s simple off set triangle shape represents a romantic angle towards the heavens, while its physical attributes of marble, glass and steel are each metaphors for the male and female bodies and their interactions with each other as a couple. The remarkable steel framed glass wall that makes up the north side of the triangle embodies the delicate and nurturing characteristics of the bride as she supports the equally impressive marble south side, the stoic groom", how incredible is that description?

It can fit up to 60 people and I have seen some package quotes of around $5,000, that also includes boutonnieres and a bunch of other things that make the price seem not so pricey. But for that beauty I would pay anything. The walk way out to the water surrounded chapel is explained like you are not on this planet, because there is nothing around it. The pool is filled with dark river rock which brings that whole sarene zen feel all together. I don't think there is much I have to say, it speaks for itself.
