Cozy Get Together...

This wedding from Style Me Pretty (also where we got the pictures from) is very interesting to me because the reception room and how its set up looks a lot like the dining room from Hogwarts in Harry Potter. But this room is located at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

The decor is simple but perfect. It has a cozy home for the holidays feel. Which is great for an intimate get together like a wedding. This decor can also be used for rehearsal dinners, dinner parties, etc... The parsons chairs, black pedestal candle holders, and urn vases give this a vintage feel. Parsons chairs can be very expensive to rent, try looking for reception halls that already have them to use. A lot of the older places know they work best and already have them on hand. You can find the rest of the decor at craft stores, antique shops, our shop (Sunday Morning), and even the dollar store.

Chandeliers are very versatile decor pieces. In the picture above they add a touch of elegance, in the picture below they add a touch of vintage. They can be added over each table, down the center of the dance floor, or place randomly through out a room. You can hang jewels or flowers off of them to dress them up or down. The possibilities are endless!

They can be used at at any type of get together whether it's a wedding or a birthday party. They look great at bachelorette parties, baby showers, wine tasting, and even a little girls tea party. In the pictures below you can see they also make great props for photo shoots, it gives them that dramatic elegance.

Romantic Touches..

If you didn't catch yesterdays post, all week I will be talking about romantic ideas because V-Day is just around the corner. For Party Stylzzz I am going to talk about subtle romantic touches that can be used at weddings, v-day, and anniversaries. If your significant other is anything like my husband he will look at you like you are crazy if you decorate the house with paper heart doily garlands, on V-day. I love my husband but he doesn't have a romantic bone in his body, so I really had to dig for pretty, romantic decor that would make me happy and he most likely wouldn't notice.

I have one of these bowls my my table and I love it! Its beautiful as every day decor.
But when I want a nice evening for my husband and I, I add some water and floating candles. I know the pictures are horrible my camera hates dark rooms. But you get the idea.

This lovely rose is a good addition to just place strategically around the house or on an event table.

I love this dainty centerpiece! Its even great for everyday use, to add some love into your world. Good for a morning brunch wedding or a girly tea party.

Favors:

Handmade soap that looks like candy hearts. Instead of using those chalky treats on your tables or at your candy bar. Make these instead and hand them out as favors. Add a few to the bathroom for a cute touch.

Having a candy bar? Want to add a little treat to your tables? Give your guests these cones to add their treats to. They could also match the petal cones that you could use for your ceremony. To achieve this take a piece of scrapbook paper and roll diagonally then staple at the top.

Odds and Ends:
Simple and cheap votive candle holders Add some pink, red, and white candies to the bottom for a fun look and place them all around the house or party hall. For an elegant look add rose petals instead.

Blue Holiday Table Decor

The holidays are right around the corner, our Shop is gearing up for its HUGE holiday gift and decor section and while I site here with all my windows open it feels like May! I can't even get myself into that holiday season mode. My favorite holiday is less then a month away (Thanksgiving November 26th) and I am so excited, food seems to be my one true happiness in this world, and what better Holiday to love then right? So today I will be touching on blue table holiday decor.

This is a wonderful table for holiday events, weddings, cocktail parties, Christmas parties. The hint of blue in the goblets brighten up the table against the white and silver. The silver dresses the table up and the centerpieces are hanging snowflakes in a cylinder vase. This is a good centerpiece for a holiday get together that has children. Kids will LOVE looking at this candy cane wonderland. The red and robins egg blue has been a new color scheme for event decor this year.

For a coastal holiday here is a table design. Robins Egg blue table settings with silver accents. You can buy metal pine cones from many decor stores around the holidays but why spend $3.00 per person on something you can DIY and find in your backyard? Find some smaller pine cones and starfish and spray paint then with metallic silver finish.

Drink of the Day

Blue Christmas Cocktail

Blue Curacoa is a liqueur made from laraha peels, which are similar to oranges, and grown on the island of Curacoa in the southern Caribbean Sea. Its gorgeous blue color in a cocktail is a stellar ingredient for signature holiday drinks

Ingredients
1 oz. premium vodka
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao liqueur
3 oz. white grape juice
Steps
Add ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
Shake and strain into a Champagne glass and serve.

Joke of the Day
Two men were walking home after a Halloween party and decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery just for laughs. Right in the middle of the cemetery they were startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from the misty shadows.
Trembling with fear, they found an old man with a hammer and chisel, chipping away at one of the headstones. "Holy cow, Mister," one of them said after catching his breath, "You scared us half to death -- we thought you were a ghost! What are you doing working here so late at night?"
"Those fools!" the old man grumbled. "They misspelled my name!"

Halloween is just around the corner and candelabras always remind me of those spooky old mansions. They are very dramatic and eye catching. Not only are they wonderful for just the center of a round table, but add a few to elongate the feel of a rectangular table, a table that only fits 6 will feel like 20.

You can dress them up with crystals and flowers or just leave them alone for everyday use. I love the use of carnations or roses in a bundle for the candles. They replace the candles with these bunches and it gives it an extra pop of color, which is wonderful for venues that don't except candles (and fake candles just don't look right with these). Also if you are just leaving them up for everyday use some fake flowers would allow this piece to be another piece of everyday decor. You can always have them come out so when you sit down to dinner you can remove them and replace with candles.

Here are just some examples;

Picture 1 : Is a beautiful display of how to you can use a candelabra to hold floral arrangements also. Its very Queen of hearts to me, I really love it. Bold and elegant.

Picture 2: Is an example of what I talked about earlier. Making bunches of flowers to replace candles with. It adds a great amount of color to an otherwise dreary table.

Picture 3: Has an arrangement in the middle of the candelabra with candle surrounding it. This is great for a simple candle holder that doesn't have much going on.

Picture 4: A elegant example of crystal use. The whole table just feels lit up compared to the dark room behind it. How the crystals hang off of this one can be done to any simple candle holder much like picture 3.

Mostly any decor place you shop has some sort of candelabras and can range from $15 to thousands of dollars. You can get them ornate, drenched in crystal, or just some metal bars with candle holders on top. Really the sky is the limit when decorating with these.

So today I will be talking about lantern centerpieces. Now that we are plummeting into fall and winter is right around the corner, lanterns always bring a warm feel to a cold night. I found some cool centerpieces that used a variation of lanterns from The Knot.

Here is just a few ideas on how to dress up lanterns for your event and/or dinner table;

Surround the bottoms with flowers. A way to keep them all in place is by buying or making a wreath to place around the bottom. It will keep everything tight and together. Examples are pics 1 and 5. Hydrangea, roses, sticks and a tomato adorn the table on pic 1. Pic 5 is a fall medley with colorful leaves, and a pumpkin with a red candle.

Another option is stones. In pics 2 the designer used chicks and hens (the green plants), a pink rose, and light colored stones to dress up the table with a very clean, zen feel. Inside the lantern they used orange and yellow rose petals and an orange candle to bring color to the table. Another option for a fun Halloween feel would be to use candy corn instead of rose petals.

In pic 4 they used clear glass dishes filled with dark colored stones and white orchids to decorate the surrounding area of the lantern. They also added some extra tea lights and flowers vases. A very spring like feel.

Lastly is pic 3, which has a very Moroccan feel. The middle is a bouquet of mini pink and orange roses, looks like there maybe some carnations and Gerber's in there too. They added some grapes, which where something that where fed to the gods by their goddesses. There are also rose petals and amber tea lights intertwined between the lanterns.

Day to Night Centerpieces

Use dark colored vases at a night reception to make the flowers, willows, or even crystals pop against the lighting. It will also make the vase look like a part of the table. This will also save on river rocks, colored stones/water, fish, sunken flowers, floating candles, etc.. So you can focus on the arrangement. Use lights on the arrangement can use battery operated lights (which you can find HERE!) to sink into the flowers to make it shine or battery operated twinkle lights (which you can get HERE!) that you can place the battery pack in the vase to hide it. Here is a good vase for that (can get from the shops site);

On a day wedding or if your not keen on flowers or giant arrangements take that idea the other way. Find an ornate vase and use it as the focal point of the table. Use subtle tea lights to project its light onto the vase if at night, during the day it will speak for itself. Use sublet colors such as green, brown, yellow, white, pink, or peach in the form of flowers, feathers, or willows to flow from the top of the vase. Carnations, Daisy's, roses, and hydrangea are some great flowers to use with it. Some good vases for that are (can be found at the shops site);
