Happy Monday!

Spring is almost here and I am hoping by the end of the month it will be back up to the 60's. I am already in the mood to get outside an clean up and get it to be a place I can work when the weather gets better. I saw this outside area that I fell in love with, the clean look with bursts of calming colors. This look is wonderful outside but could be amazing as a seaside sitting room too!
Of course the sectional will be the most expensive and you could look at spending a couple of thousand no matter where you go. Keep an eye out at estate, garage, and tag sales for used pieces that you could make any color reupholstering or using slip covers. Walmart has a pretty nice brown and tan one for $1,600 though, if you are up to buying new.

For a cheaper version of the table in the original picture get a plain wood table from any craft store and then stain it with sealant. If your using the above couch you will want to stain it one step darker then the wicker color, so almost black. Target has a table for $152 that would fit well with it (see below).

For the little added touches such as the carpet, its not quite the same but its pretty none the less, for only $83 (5'3" by 7'6"). Then there are the pillows, which can get expensive. For another option, make your own! They should only take about 5-10 minutes per pillow to make and half the price. If your not sure how to do this google it, there are so many sites out there that will fit your needs.

Queen of Hearts Bedroom...

Happy Monday everyone or now Tuesday! So Valentines Day is Sunday, I figured I would do a romantic week. Everything will focus around Valentines Day, Anniversaries, and just romance in general. For Decoupage Monday here is romantic beauty of a bedroom that will make you the Queen of men's hearts. The romantic ambiance in this bedroom, no matter what day it is will erupt the passion between you and your partner.

This room is also a great DIY project! Between the chair and the paintings it will definitely keep you busy for a few days. The chair if you look back in my DIY posts you will find one for the printed burlap chair. This would pretty much be the same situation. Get a tan slip cover and before putting it on imprint different types of palm trees or anything you would like onto it, let it dry and then place it on the chair. Doing it while its on the chair will cause a distorted image and will be very difficult to accomplish.

For the images in the frames you can freehand or if you don't feel that ambitious, you can buy some from a stock photo site and print it out or buy a book full of black and white art and frame some of the pictures in it (I love doing this!). For silhouetted pictures (which I think would look amazing in this room) trace an image onto black paper and then cut it out and mount on a white piece of paper with glue or tape.

Sailors Delight...



Hope everyone had a great weekend. It snowed here I think we wound up with 9" all together, which is not allot to part of the country but we haven't seen snow here like this in about 10 years! So it was exciting but I am over it now and would like the snow to melt but we are getting more today. The colder it gets the more I love these seaside homes.



The biggest and most expensive pieces in this room are the couch and ottoman which can cost you on the low end in upwards of $1,000. So if your not in the market for new furniture then use slip covers just like what was mentioned last week, they work just as well. The curtains and matching pillows are an easy weekend DIY project, use a stencil, tape, or even free hand if you feel ambitious to make the wave design.

Fun Little Home Office....

So like I started to say on Saturday my office is really tiny. Worst part is it is also my closet, the library, the music room, the art room, and where my dogs crate is. This room above is perfect (even though it has much more space then I have) for a random room/office. I would love to redo my office like this. But of course since I am a renter May comes too quickly and that uncertainty if we will be in the same house year after the year is quite frustrating. So I will dream up my perfect room for right now, while helping you all accomplish the look for cheap, and hopefully when May comes around and I find out whats going on I will be able to redo the room also.

What I love most about this room is how many usable surfaces there are. There is the table which looks like it gets used to meet with clients but would also make a good arts and crafts table. The stand in the left corner has a wonderful amount of space to hold your work materials and art stuff. And of course the nice big desk that isn't cluttered underneath (wish I could say that about my desk). Its stationed into whats important, where you do your work, where you meet with clients.

The shadow boxes are cute, if you run a pretty successful business I thought it would be cute to put up a new shadow box each year of what your business accomplished. Or you can put kids and family items in them. The one thing I really don't like is the cramped bench next to the table. Its nice if you meet with a lot of clients but if its something that one or two chairs can accomplish its just useless space.

New England Seaside Charm for Less....

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, and not to rough of a Monday. This weeks Home decoupage I will be doing New England seaside home decor. No matter the time of year this type of decor makes my world bright. I love old cozy cape cod bungalows with painted floors, light colors, and wooden slatted walls. This look can be achieved for pretty cheap because its patched together, its not all from one collection. Most of it seems to be collected along the way, which sometimes makes the coziest of areas.

The two chairs and couch can all be recycled. Just use slip covers, it will give it that worn in look. You can find slip covers at most stores that have decor items, Walmart, Target, K-mart, Overstock, Pottery Barn, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc..

The black and white floor could be painted but you could also use a striped carpet on top of natural or white washed floors. Try Ballard Designs for a striped carpet. When it comes to the skin on the floor a fun idea is to go to a fabric store and buy a few yards of suede in the color of your choice and draw a design (doesn't have to be of a dead animal) then cut it out and throw it down. Unless you find a cheap skin, this will cut your cost by about half.

The blinds on the windows are very bright and airy and are more of a decoration so the windows don't look so bare. Select Blinds have some nice blinds for decent prices.

Orange You Lucky!

Yep! The person who owns this room truly is a lucky person. This bathroom is just a beautiful example of orange walls. It has such a warm, beachy, clean feel to it. All I would want is a really comfy chaise lounge and a good book if this was mine. It looks so elegant but if you break down every part of it, it can be made pretty cheaply, which is awesome for us normal people ;-)


You don't necessarily need doors to the outside in order to get this style. Long windows with long flowy drapes would work just as well. Vanity's run for over $1,000 for one like this. Personally I would buy a old one from a yard sale and paint it to look like that. All it takes is a tan paint. Also some dark stain. Paint the whole table tan and then stain the crevices lightly. It will take some imagination and a good hand with a paint brush. The dresses on the left is pretty much the same thing. It has Moroccan colors orange, red, and goldish yellow draws with a black cabinet. A sponge and the paint will make this effects very well.

Show Your Inner Child...


Here is a living room/sitting room that I found on The Nest. I love the use of color, how the room seems so ordinary until you see the bursts of color here and there and it brings the whole room together. It really shows the kids in them.

I am going to start with the wall colors. The main color is eggshell with ivory windows and chair rails. The colorful squares seem to be in the colors pumpkin, lilac, robins egg blue, sky blue, olive green, and butter. You can do this one of two ways, by using decals like THESE or you can hand paint them. If you are going to paint them I recommend getting the tiny sample cans from home depot to paint the smaller squares, such as the robins egg blue, butter, and olive green. You will only need a little of it and it lessens the amount of left over paint stored in your garage, shed or only closet in your apartment.

With painters tape block off the lighter colors first and paint them and let dry. Then go back and block off the darker colors and paint them last. On the section like the pumpkin and lilac I would do this first and then go back after the pumpkin has dried and paint the lilac over the pumpkin section. This will give that rectangle the faded look with the transparency of the pumpkin under it.

The modern sleek furniture can be found at places like IKEA and Target. The pillows, purple, blue and green variations are on the medium color scale. There are three steps of decor color in this room, dull, medium, and loud. Most well decorated rooms have this.

Now I will talk about the fireplace. White colonial style is original and clean looking. The mirrors on the top and bottoms enlarges the look of the room, and adds more color with the reflection of the walls. The outside tile work is not my cup of tea personally. I feel like its very grandma like in this young feeling room. So I would change that out, which is not much work HERE is a walk through by Lowes.

Landscaping a Room

I am either really into designing something special today, or I want to spend a lot of money. Everything I have been looking at to talk about with you guys today, I want everything, including the baby rooms and I don't even have any kids!. I guess its the change of season.


I am going to touch on outside decor today, because that's where I always want to be this time of the year. Not only will your your space become a beautiful oasis but a great spot for get togethers.

This is great inspiration for a larger yard. The only things I would change with this whole design is adding some flowy drapes and the color of the chairs and carpet. I am a lover of color, so this is just way to matchy matchy with the surrounding pebbles and fireplace. But if that suits what your likes are then by all means go for it!


Lets start with the wood pergola. There are so many designs for these that it really depends on what you like. There's ones with crosshatch designs, which are wonderful if you want to add hanging plants. There are ones like the one above that only has horizontal lines. There are ones with lattice walls or open walls. There are endless possibilities with these. I am just going to work with the one above which you can find in many stores for about $1,500-$2,500 depending on the wood used and the size. Its actually a good price considering its another room you can use most of the year if not all year round. You can find one HERE. Also check out your wholesale clubs (Sams, BJ's, Costco, etc..) or Lowes they usually have speciality items like these at reasonable prices. If you feel the confidence to build one yourself then check out the DIY version HERE.

Add a wood or clear curtain rod on the 4 sides of the pergola with sheer colored drapes, such as sage, white, teal, purple, etc.. The color of the drapes will add to the theme inside (orange or purple good for Moroccan... Tiffany blue, or white are good for ocean theme and greens are good for a woodsy feel). You can find some wonderful panels HERE.

The furniture is essential to keep everyone happy and comfy even if its just to go out and read a book. I am in love with the Hampton Bay collection at Home Depot, the colors and variety are wonderful. You can find them HERE. I would use the Chateau collection for this specific design. The outdoor rugs from Home Depot are gorgeous too. I would pick a brown and tan rug with a bold design.

The stone fireplace on cold night makes for a great focal point. So the more elaborate the better on normal circumstances, even though I feel it gets lost in this design. Try the one from Lowes which you can find HERE.

Purple and/or fuchsia potted flowers will pop next to the green and natural browns and tans. The flower color also goes with the lanterns which I feel once again matches everything and nothing brings out a specific color. I would use the flowers as the burst of color and tone down the colors of the lanterns such as silver, black, or white. Also a longer centerpiece on the table rather then the same lanterns that are on the corners of the pergola.

Lastly darker stone or pebbles would make the the whole area look like an island and stand out.
