Design Tip #1 & 2
Do you have a wall that sticks out from the rest of the room? Try wallpapering that part and paint the rest of the wall a color from the wallpaper. Take a piece down to Home Depot so they can match it perfectly. It will turn that annoying part of the room that doesn't fit into a wonderful piece of dimensional art work.
Old wall scones can be ugly and boring. Even if you rent a place this is a wonderful fix to your problem. If there are shades of the light remove them. Shape a piece of Plexiglas the way you want, wrap a piece of wallpaper, canvas print, or scrapbook paper around the glass and mount it over the outside of the light to the wall behind the old sconce. Make sure the top and sides are not enclosed, and to not use anything flammable or that will produce too much heat.
Now you have a new scone!
